Making of

Anacusis

Performing Art & Interactive Installation

Work Description & Design

This art work discuss the friction of communication between the listener and the hearing-impaired. With more conversation with the hearing-impaired, they usually use sign language, lip reading, and exaggerated body language. When people are not familiar with the way of expression, they usually ignore other’s idea and the ineffective communication emerged.

Creator performs " Anacusis ", acting as a human statue with white body painted, standing on a box and doing sign language with silence. The art work reflects that everyone wants to control the conversation; however, the gap just appears.

Creator stands on a box and performs " Anacusis " in white clothes with pure appearance. The images of Mandarin Phonetic Symbols will fall and collide with the masked character and its change will rely on the temple of the music. All of this appearance reveals that the hearing-impaired struggles in the depth of their mind when learning language without any sounds. The Projection Mapping in real time creates the light of the performer’s shape and simulate the skin of her. Firstly the performer express the noise of mind with the appearance of words and sounds, she find her position and values eventually.
